Malta’s innovation in 2008 was far below EU average

Data released today by the European Union shows that Malta ranks far below EU-27 average in innovation.

Malta was ranked together with Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania, Romania, Latvia and Bulgaria as a catching up country by the 2008 edition of the European Innovation Scorecard. Cyprus, another island-state in the European Union, is ranked as a moderate innovator. The best innovator from among the EU member states is Sweden.

This is what the report says about Malta:

For Malta, one of the Catching-up countries, innovation performance is below the EU27 average but the rate of improvement is above that of the EU27. Relative strengths, compared to the country’s average performance, are in Finance and support and Economic effects and relative weaknesses are in Human resources, Linkages & entrepreneurship and Innovators.

No need to rush Air Malta – it’s just a customer after all

Robert Zammit makes a case for Air Malta to reduce its fares by entering into a fresh agreement for the purchase of fuel given the low price of oil.

In so doing, Robert asks for Air Malta to ‘wake up’.
