Cars waiting to be sold in the UK

This picture, taken from The Guardian, shows Nissan cars waiting to be sold in the UK. Demand for cars globally has plummeted forcing producers to cut production. In the UK only, car production was halved in December 2008. As a result, global steel production fell for the first time in ten years.

Meanwhile, Fiat continues its rise with rumours suggesting that it might merge with French carmaker Peugeot.

Obama takes on the threat poised by Darth Vader even before he took office

Obama dances, fights, computes complex algorithms, makes calls, and, above all, sells fast.

Liam from blog.com.mt sent me a set of products featuring Obama that were launched to mark Obama’s inauguration. These range from dolls to mobile phones to t-shirts and even virus software.

The action doll in picture above is produced by Japanese company Gamu Toys

Clearly, this toy firm is following the likes of Citibank, GM and Bank of America in placing its trust in Obama’s special powers.

Here’s the facebook message from Liam with all the links:

Update: After that Teodor from Schlock Magazine pointed out that Obama also co-starred in a Spider-Man comic, here’s an update sent by Daniel via Facebook:

Malta’s innovation in 2008 was far below EU average

22 Jan

Data released today by the European Union shows that Malta ranks far below EU-27 average in innovation.

Malta was ranked together with Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania, Romania, Latvia and Bulgaria as a catching up country by the 2008 edition of the European Innovation Scorecard. Cyprus, another island-state in the European Union, is ranked as a moderate innovator. The best innovator from among the EU member states is Sweden.

This is what the report says about Malta:

For Malta, one of the Catching-up countries, innovation performance is below the EU27 average but the rate of improvement is above that of the EU27. Relative strengths, compared to the country’s average performance, are in Finance and support and Economic effects and relative weaknesses are in Human resources, Linkages & entrepreneurship and Innovators.

Apple shocked everyone yesterday announcing record quarterly results that exceeded analysts’ expectations. What was the reason behind their success?

I asked this question to Simon from Astute Photo, who argues that careful product management, genial engineerng, iconic design and great marketing are all reasons for their success.

These results also show that Apple’s waterfall effect works wonders, Simon says.
